About Camp Mumbo

How it all began…
As the saying goes, “simplicity is virtue”. In life, many things can be simple and enjoyable at the same time. This is exactly what Teck Ghee Children’s Camp is all about– a simple aim to bring a world of fun to our campers through a camp filled with exciting outdoor activities, innovative games, traditional camp songs and cheers! This was how our camp began its days in 1978, and till today, it still runs on the same idea, same inspiration.

Tell me more about Camp Mumbo!
Today, our camp is more affectionately known as Camp Mumbo. The structure of the camp remains similar over the years – campers will stay in for 3 days 2 nights overnight at a designated school, with tight security ensuring the safety of the children. Both indoor and outdoor activities are planned so as to allow a variety of activities for our campers to experience! A traditional campfire will be held on the final night; friends and family are warmly invited to join in and support their children in their campfire performance. And when the campfire comes to a close, campers bid their last goodbyes to their instructors and new-found friends, bringing home a whole new camping experience of a lifetime which they could never have experienced elsewhere! 

Hmm..so how much are the instructors paid for working in this camp?
Well, the truth is, we are paid NOTHING for running this camp for the past 30 odd years! Our instructors are all volunteers who just want to have fun as much as they want to bring fun to the children! Some of the instructors were once campers themselves – this camp had brought so much meaning to them and their lives that they want to stay on and carry it forward for the children of today to experience. Our volunteer to children ratio is about 1:2, therefore Camp Mumbo can assure every child is in good hands.

Why should my child go for Camp Mumbo, and not other camps?
Camp Mumbo runs on the simple nature of bringing children to experience fun which they may never have had experienced ever since techonology control of our daily lives. That would mean no internet, no handphones, no PSPs, no Nintendo Wii…just the instructors and the campers and a whole lot of games..now,THIS IS FUN 
To add a shoutout to all Daddies and Mummies reading this: Don’t you wish to relive the days where you can enjoy a day without worrying for your kids? Take time-off from your job as parents? Well, YOUR CHANCE IS HERE!  Your children get to learn to exercise independence away from family and making friends with fellow children at the camp, while you get to enjoy your holiday..we dare say, your children will then take home a very different experience, no doubt. 
